What ARE you afraid of ??
What are you NOT afraid of ??
Ghosts were never really scary to me ever in my life, maybe that's be cause I've never seen one but lets keep this in the world of film and cinema the biggest most successful Ghost films are the Paranormal Activity films which boggles my mind not just as a writer and director of films myself but as a paying movie goer. Those films were nothing but one jump scare after another, I don't get it ?? Maybe they had a good story but 96 minutes of slamming doors, clanging pots, creepy noises through out the house and "something" dragging people out of a room doesn't make a scary movie for me these films are a run time crammed full of cheap parlor tricks.
I have friends in the Paranormal field, Eric Perry who is like a brother to me is widely successful in the field with TV shows, his own production company he's owner / creature of several Paranormal Investigation teams and he has seen and witnessed things that are incredible. Like I said maybe ghosts don't scare me because I've never encountered one and if I did come across a ghost maybe I would be scared, we'll have to see it that ever happens.
The other side of that coin is there are MANY fakes in the field as well who use the same cheap parlor tricks as the PA movies to make people think there are ghosts in a location when its simply set up to look that way.
Zombies I know this will be an unpopular one because MILLIONS of you flock to A&E to watch The Walking Dead every week and that's great that you enjoy that show, I'm one of the MILLIONS that doesn't watch that show and NEVER will because I don't believe we will ever experience a Zombie outbreak . I did enjoy World War Z because it wasn't People coming back from the dead to become Zombies to eat brains and human flesh etc. etc. Although I do like the CW show iZombie because it's funny :)
With all that said I can't argue with the SUCCESS of Twilight, Paranormal Activity or The Walking Dead which are all HUGELY SUCCESSFUL and I'm happy for them and wish the creators of those franchises nothing but success in everything they do in the future.
This blog isn't an attack on these types of shows or films or their fans I'm simply answering a fan question . I think if I watched Twilight, TWD and the PA films I might be able to get into them over time but I don't want to put in the effort I mean there are five or six PA flms now, TWD is in season 5 or 6, four Twilight films too much to catch up on, and I don't have that kind of time, sorry. I'll stick to writing and directing Slasher films that could happen in Anytown, USA and be happy with my career path...
In Closing :
My wife loves those movies and now I do too, I thought they were dumb and predictable (Like most horror seems to be even my beloved Slashers) Once I say Final Destination and Final Destination 2 (Only saw it because AJ Cook was in it) I figured "okay they can't possibly make a third film the plot and storyline is used up" yet they made 3 three more films (The entire horror genre was killed by the number of sequels turned out in the 80's which is one of the MAJOR reasons Sins of Man is a trilogy) Over time the series grew on me and I watch it a couple times a year.
I'm a firm believer in fate, destiny and "everything happens for a reason" and I use those beliefs to understand and get into the Final Destination films, think of it that way. Every choice we make has an effect on the next choice we make and the one after that and the one after that, there are risks and rewards with every choice we make ever moment of every day, right ? it's kind of scary to think of it that way but it's true. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction that's science people . The characters of the first Final Destination film, had they not gotten off the plane the rest of the events wouldn't have happened it all goes back to the kids getting off the plane before it crashed . One choice created a ripple effect for countless lives. WOW ! Just wow !
So I guess I'll end this blog by saying MAYBE there is hope that I will someday be a fan of the PA franchise, TWD and / or Twilight.
STAY HUMBLE, STAY HUNGRY MY FRIENDS :)
(Except Zombie's NEVER Let A Zombie Go Hungry)
