Founder of Wicked Carnival Productions
This is something that I don't understand about people . Working hard is what built your car, your house, the company you work for, without alot of hard work over the course of years, decades these things wouldn't be around, is it that hard to understand .
I have said a bunch of times that success is a funny word and is measured in different ways . People think of successful film makers they think millions of dollars, big houses, fancy cars, beautiful women etc. but I'm well aware that those things don't come to everyone in the film making world . I have a movie out that I poured my heart and soul into and I'm proud of that . I don't need a room full of beautiful women I have a beautiful wife . I don't need millions of dollars just enough to live well . I don't need a fancy car because I don't drive . A big house would be nice because my wife could fill it with cats, my kids could have a big yard to play in, I could start the garden I've always dreamed about .
Success to me is about setting a goal and reaching that goal . When we released Sins of Man : Rise of Mortis I wanted to sell a single copy to anyone who wasn't associated with the project in some way, that means someone out there in the world wants to see my movie . We ended up selling 11 copies on the release day and that was a huge success in my book and a total of 70 DVD's total .
With the upcoming release of Sins of Man II : Vengeance I would like to see a higher number of DVD's sold if it happens I will be happy but if it doesn't happen I won't pack up shop and quit making movies . I'm in this for the long haul and to see how far a guy like me can make it in the world .
So as you can see success for me is very different then just about everyone on the planet, success like everyone else looks at it is unrealistic for many of us, when I started this crazy journey before I met Chris or anyone else who is now associated with Wicked Carnival Productions / Top Guy Productions I made a deal with myself that I would never start a project if I couldn't finish it and I plan on keeping that promise .
We went through hell to complete Sins of Man : Rise of Mortis and Sins of Man II : Vengeance and here we are getting ready to start work on our first short film The Vengeful One . It may be crazy for such a small company to have branched off into a two division company 4 years into their existence but I did it anyway . It may be crazy to think a person who has never seen a live action short film in his life can possibly make one but I'm doing it in a couple months . Will the short be successful ? Maybe, maybe not time will tell but I'll never know if I don't try, right ?
This is trial and error folks, I'm working on a little bit of everything and see what I'm good at . when I wrote The Vengeful One it was intended to be a feature length film so while I was outlining the movie (I still hate outlining) I wrote the beginning of the movie the mid movie twist and the ending of the movie complete with dialog and I liked the way it looked so I wrote a script based on those three things and BOOM The Vengeful One was written !
Now to close out I want to talk about something that has been crippling to me for years and it wasn't til I met Chris that I learned to understand it and learned to deal with it effectively, that being my fear of failure . When we get in our own heads sometimes it can really hurt us, I worried about not selling any DVDs, not having the cast, crew or money to make this happen and then slowly as things started to fall in place I understood that I wasn't lone in this journey and that we were all going to work together through thick and thin to make it happen .
We have the talent, imagination and ability to make amazing things happen on screen and until we run out of ideas we will continue to do it . 2017 is going to be a big year with 2 releases Sins of Main II : Vengeance and The Vengeful One . Hope you enjoy them .
