I love sitting down once a week and talk to you guys and gals about all things DC, Marvel, Star Wars etc. it's a great thing for me it's 99.9 % my personal thoughts and opinions mixed with news and rumors and things of that nature . I want The Maine Morgue to be a channel where we can all come together and talk about the geeky things we love and no one has to worry about being an "outsider" .
When this show started on July 10th 2016 with the first show it started as a audio podcast type show and I really felt weird sitting there talking to my computer but I was shy and not really comfortable in front of the camera even though I had been in two movies and dozens of videos on another youtube channel I created that has since been taken down, after talking to some people that I'm close to that suggested that I make the show a video podcast because it would be better if the people could see me I figured I would eventually get used to being on camera and the first few times it was rough for everyone involved but over time I've gotten better with it .
Take this weeks show for example, I think it could be one of my best shows yet . One thing I get asked alot is why I don't take out the flubs and things like that and the simple answer would be that I don't know how to edit, although I think I'm going to start to learn soon because I think it will be a useful skill to have . The other reason I don't cut out the flubs is because it feels more real to me if I leave them in, look at it this way, if we were having a conversation face to face and I flubbed up would you want me to stop talking and start at the beginning ? of course you wouldn't no one would ever say anything if we did things that way, right ?
In the beginning I wanted the show to be all about horror stuff but soon realized that topics were becoming hard to come by because while I love making movies through my production company I don't like to talk about them during production or early in post production because I 'm always afraid I'll give away too much info. So I started answering fan mail on the show and that really just felt awkward for some reason . I always did a movie talk segment where I talked about a horror movie that I watched that week but I feel that is something that not many people enjoy, mainly because I don't rip movies like most reviewers and most viewers don't want to watch someone praise every movie they see . I can almost always find something positive in every single movie I watch, ask my wife .
The reason I don't trash other peoples movies both big Hollywood movies and fellow indie creators is because I know exactly how hard it is to get a film off the ground and the 24/7 struggle that goes into making my vision come to life and who m I to try to tear down a fellow creator because I didn't like their vision for a film ??
Do people look at my work critically ? Of course they do and that's their right, do I take what they say to heart, of course not because I'm not wrapped up in what they think because the fans that like what I'm doing far out weigh the fans that don't like what I'm doing, it's really that simple.
Recently The Maine Morgue has become more Superhero orientated and I'm okay with that . My wife and I were having lunch one day talking about random stuff when I started talking about Arrow, she said to me "You love those shows so much why don't you talk about them on your show ?" I was flabbergasted and sat back in the chair and I said "I don't know" . SO I took a leap and decided to start watching the DC "Arrowverse" more closely as well as Marvel's Agents of Shield, and Gotham and discussing them on the show weekly .
I started to hear rumblings that "I was turning my back on the horror community" because I wanted to and did in fact change the format of my show . I understand how some people would think that but it's simply not true. There a lot of things are happening in other areas that interest me while the horror world is basically not changing .
Friday The 13th appears dead, A Nightmare On Elm Street died in 2010 thanks New Line ! Halloween is still a year away, I only release one movie a year because we are still looking for our breakout film to happen . I focus my horror fandom on slashers and that's basically all I watch unless someone gives me a nudge and says "Hey check this movie out" .
I also do a Horror Pack Indie Movie Review Video each week on my channel and that's something that I love doing because as an indie film creator I have learned that one of the best ways to learn the craft of making indie movies is to watch as many of them as I can . I love my Horror Pack subscription and look forward to it each month !
The Maine Morgue is what some folks would call a "passion project" as I do the show because I want to and I don't make money on it . I've thought about doing a Patron campaign for the show to get better equipment and to make the show bigger but I'm miles away from doing that .
I would love to be able to have guests on the show and I would like to reveal my dream guest list to you now. Maine's own Anna Kendrick has to be at the top of the list as I've always wanted to talk to her . Maine's own Stephen King would be awesome to sit and talk to as well . I would love to have Scout Compton on the show because I'm a huge fan of her work, as well as some of my favorite Comic book show actors Danielle Panabaker, Katie Cassidy and Caty Lotz would be at the top of that list along with Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin .
This show is still very much in the infant stages folks. I want to stress that to anyone reading this . Iwant this show to grow and build on it's growing success and I want it to be interactive, never be afraid to reach out to me if you have a thought or comment or suggestion I read everything sent to me and reply as much as possible, I guess what I'm really trying to say is that The Maine Morgue is just as much YOUR show as it is MINE .
In closing I want to say THANK YOU to everyone who has supported me in this wild, crazy journey to this point and will continue to support me in the future . The Maine Morgue is so much fun and I enjoy doing it and I hope you all enjoy watching me make a fool of myself each week .
Stay Humble, Stay Hungry My Friends :)
