The script was written by Kevin Williamson and the movie was directed by the late Wes Craven it stars Neve Campbell a Sidney Prescott and Skeet Ulrich as Billy Loomis with a brief appearance by mega star Drew Berrymore .
This is the film that SAVED the Slasher genre in 1996 when the genre and horror in general was D-E-A-D DEAD !
Admittedly I didn't like this movie when I sat in the theater and watched it, I was outright pissed off but then sitting in burger king with my wife afterward I realized that it was everything I wanted in a Scream film and it was potentially the start of another trilogy .(sadly as of this writing the franchise seems to be dead on the big screen)
Given the love I have for this series I don't want there to be a scream 5 or 6 because without Wes Craven it wouldn't be the same, with that said I did really enjoy the TV series on MTV and can't wait for season two this year as it should be good .
The one complaint I hear about this movie is that they killed Randy and they shouldn't have and I was pissed off at first like all of you but I look back at ANOES 3 when they killed of Nancy it made sense to the overall story then as it did in Scream 2, Randy was Never going to get the girl no matter what and killing him off was what was best for the movie because if you watch the final showdown with Debbie Salt (Mrs. Loomis) and Sidney when she admits to getting "a little knife happy" when killing Randy that is what gave Sid her fire to fight back to honor her fallen friend .
First I want to say that this wasn't a horrible film in any way, thw acting was good and the writing was brilliant. I wasn't sure where they were going to go when the movie opens with the first double murder Scott Foley is Sidney's half brother and the cause of all of the blood shed in the series I thought this movie was amazing for that reveal.
The biggest complaint I hear from people is they thought the movie was cartoonish like a 2 hour Scooby Doo episode and I see elements of that but in the words of the late Wes Craven Scream at its heart is a murder mystery so that story line works for this third and final film of the original trilogy .
