Due to the films poor reception and harsh material this film basically killed Mr. Powell as a director in the UK. On a personal note I think this film is brilliant and should be viewed along side the next film I'm going to talk about ....
Who can forget the ICONIC shower scene in which Janet Leigh's character is murdered, people who have never seen this film know about that scene and considering it's 2016 that's amazing to me, which leads me to the "modern slasher" movies .....
The blood and gore in this movie were incredible and disturbing at times and in all honesty while it's not my favorite film in the genre it deserves alot of praise from fans and horror creators the world over .
Another thing I love about this movie is the display of Michael playing with his victims before he kills them and the way he put them on display for Laurie .
In May 1980 they released Friday The 13th, this movie was a game changer in many ways and while it was intended as a rip off of Halloween it didn't come along that way in my opinion if you're going to rip off Halloween you should use the slow burn and the suspense to build towards the pay off, Mr. Cunningham and Mr. Miller didn't to that they wanted the success of Halloween but decided to do it the bloody, gory way and to their credit it work well as the film was hugely successful .
The also used a female serial killer in this movie which was great and really took the audience by surprise, lets be honest who would peg Mrs. Voorhees as a killer ? she's a sweet an innocent lady .
They really turned out a great sequel, the timing was right the story was good and I for one loved Amy Steel as Ginny Fields .
As far as we have come in the genre from 1960 - 1981 Horror fans weren't ready for what would happen three years down the road .
See the amazing thing that Mr. Craven was able to write was something that fans hadn't seen yet, Freddy didn't kill babysitters or stalk around a lake to get revenge for the death of his mother, Freddy killed the children of Elm Street in the one place they should've been the safest... Their Dreams !!
Directed by Tom Holland the movie follows a serial killer named Charles Lee Ray as he is gunned down by a police officer, before he dies he transfers his soul into a doll and we're off to the races with the suspense and horror, this movie mixed suspense andblood shed very well .
An interesting side note to this movie the Charles Lee Ray character aka Chucky was named after famous killers Charles Manson, Lee Harvey Oswald and James Earl Ray .
Think about this for a moment from the time Psycho was released in 1960 to the release of Halloween The Curse of Michael Myers there were 34 slasher films released from these franchises and countless others that are rip offs of the grandfathers of the slasher genre, that's alot of movies and it's no surprise fans were starting to grow tired of them until the winter of 1996 .....
by this time fans had grown tired of the same old characters falling victim to the same old killer and their games so Kevin Williamson took all of the "typical characters" and "typical tropes" in every horror movie and exposed them to the audience and it worked like a charm to breath life into the genre that was on life support for even the most loyal horror fan .
Nothing against PA, Insidious or Zombie movies but I'm a slasher fan for life and for me and MILLIONS of people like me the genre will NEVER DIE, I feel that slasher movies are going the way of indie film and major studios won't make them unless they are reboots or remakes of the classics mentioned above . Which brings me to this ....
