This was a ground breaking film in the horror genre and specifically the slasher sub genre. Victor Miller wrote a good script and Sean S. Cunningham told an amazing story with a twisting plot line. this is a film that I watch several times a year.
The dramatic ending scene between Mrs. Voorhees and Alice is incredible, and the jump at the end of the movie right before the credits roll is a perfect ending .
Before you ask no I don't plan on going the safe way and just ranking them in the order they were released I just think these were the top two films in the series.
This was the debut of Jason and takes place 5 years after the events of the first movie. one of the things I didn't like about this movie was the the fact that half of the councilors never go back to camp and thus they survive by dumb luck.
Overall this story was good, the acting was good, I like the way the script was written. one thing I didn't like was the death of Ms. Shepard I thought she should've lived. they really dialed back the violence in this installment of the series I think and it shows and for once as a believer in the "less is more" approach to horror I felt like the gore, violence should've been much worse then it was and this was do to the motherfuckin' MPAA they killed this movie over and over again and forced Director John Carl Buechler to drastically change this movie until it wasn't his movie anymore.
This film was directed by Ronnie Yu who has no business directing such an important film of this magnitude ! This is the same moron who directed the trash film that we call Bride of Chucky that movie sucked ! Kane Hodder was replaced as Jason by Ken Kirzinger in this film which was a horrible decision by New Line, Ronnie Yu and everyone involved because Kane Hodder is THE Jason Voorhees of the original series without question .
Katherine Isabelle was cool in the movie a Gibb although she didn't do her own nude scene in the shower she was good in the role, Monica Kenna was the female lead Lori she was good in this role but the acting was alittle off overall as I feel there may have been too many characters in the story plus the two ICONIC killers .
While this s one of my favorites in the series and I like the Tommy / Jason story arc I think they should have gone in a different direction.
Jason was played by CJ Graham in this film and he was amazing as the Iconic slasher in this movie, I love the mix of humor and violence it was just enough at times nd too much in other places. I love the camper scene the most when Cort meets Jason .
This movie was a good laugh and the set up for the madness that would follow in later films. I think putting the hockey mask on Jason was brilliant and set him apart from Michael Myers . (really his only masked counterpart at this point) overall this movie was fairly good and the 3D was good it's one of my favorite 3D films of all time .
My one major complaint about this movie is the pot field and the implication that Jason is protecting his crop, not only is is stupid but it's just way over the top, why would Jason the unstoppable killing machine care about a crop of weed ? Yes it serves a purpose in the story but does nothing to help the overall legend of Jason Voorhees and was probably put in to humor the pot smoking audience again really stupd and low brow in my opinion.
Most fans dislike the tunnel system that runs under the camp, I like that part of the story because it serves a good purpose in explaining how Jason travels around the camp without being seen as well as how he can seemingly be in more then one place at a time. Overall a good film that fell short in some areas .
Kane Hodder plays Jason for the final time in the original series, his Jason is smart and cunning and the movements he does that other actors didn't that's what makes his Jason amazing. I loved Uber Jason after Kay-em 14 "Killed" Jason he is reanimated by the nano technology thus Uber Jason was created !
Overall this was a fun film and a great idea that may have missed the mark with most fans but I enjoyed it :)
Where it had success was the managed to take Jason away from the lake and into New York City while keeping Crystal Lake in the story and having the main arc center around events at the lake. I liked the "boxing match" between Julius and Jason that was one of the highlights of the movie for me.
Where they failed was they didn't do enough of the movie in New York, most of the action takes place on the boat on the way to New York.
I like the the inclusion of the Rick character who wanted to kill Jason for killing his sister Sandra in part 2 that was interesting to me this movie was the start of the Tommy Jarvis story arc which would span parts 4, 5 and 6.
Ocerall this movie was great in that if it had been the final film of the series they sent Jason off with a bloody beautiful ending !
I loved Reggie "The Reckless" (Played by Shavar Ross) he was fun to watch. "Jason" was played by Dick Wieland. The real Jason who was played by Tom Morga (uncredited) is only in two scenes as Tommy's mind plays tricks on hi and he sees Jason when he's really not there.
Overall the story was good but not having Jason really doomed this movie .
Then you go with the whole he can be brought back by a Voorhees and he can only be sent to hell by a Voorhees bullshit, WTF were you thinking when you wrote that shit !? then you have Creighton Duke (Who the fuck is this guy) and his completely screwed up storyline and the mythical dagger crap, this movie overall sucked !!
I want to end this on positive note and like I said at the beginning of this blog I can usually find something good or cool in each of the Friday The 13th films it was really hard to find anything like that in this film but I did like the Steven Freeman character (Played by John D. Lemay) as well as the Agent Elizabeth Marcus character (played by Julie Michaels) she was a bad ass chick !!
